The Leslie 122 is a rotating speaker cabinet used by Prince. It is frequently paired with the Hammond B3 organ. Prince first used this combination B3 on the Parade tour and then on the Sign O The Times album (“The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker” and “Adore”). It also appears on the album cover.
Prince used the Leslie 122 as a guitar amplifier, which can be heard on the song “Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic” and it was also used to amplify the Fairlight on “Rockhard In A Funky Place”.
The Hammond B3/Leslie 122 set up would become a fixture of Prince’s touring setup, played by Boni Boyer, Rosie Gaines and Morris Hayes. Ken Rich Sound Services later rehoused the Leslie 122 in a plexi-glass case.
