The Lakland 44-94 is an electric bass used by Prince in the late 1990s. It was given to Prince as a gift by Rhonda Smith, who was sponsored by Lakland at the time, and it features a custom “Black Power” fist headstock. Prince used the bass on tour in 1998 and posed with it on the cover of Bass Player magazine in 1999.
Rhonda Smith also used a 44-94.
The bass is currently in the collection at Paisley Park and appears in the Prince - Guitar & Bass book. It has been exhibited at the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix, Arizona.
