The Gus G1 Purple Special is a guitar from Prince’s collection. It has an unusual cedar, carbon fibre and gold plate construction.
Prince met English luthier Simon "Gus" Farmer in 2007 during his 21-night run of shows at the O2 in London, England. Although construction began at this time, he didn’t receive the finished guitar until 2016 making it the last guitar he owned in his lifetime. He played it a few times in March and April 2016, and liked it so much that he commissioned a similar bass, which was completed after his death – the G3 Purple Special.
It is currently in the collection at collection at Paisley Park and appears in the Prince - Guitar & Bass book.
